[HOW TO]INSTALL CUSTOM LOLIPOP ROMS IN SAMSUNG GALAXY S4 AT&T #RGS

VIDEO TUTORIAL

Step 1: From a rooted NJ4 or prior baseband ROM, flash GE51 in safestrap, being carefull to select the AT&T with SafeStrap options. Once complete, flash the ATT_OC3_modules.zip for WiFi.

Step 2: After the ROM flashes, uncheck Reboot Device Now and navigate to the Safestrap homescreen, select Reboot, and then Download.

Step 4: In download mode, open ODIN and click on the AP button and select the I337_OC3_Stock_Kernel.

Step 5: Once that is done, let the phone boot until ODIN says that the kernel flashed and take out your battery, killing the boot (don't worry, as long as ODIN says that you passed, you should be fine). Reboot into download mode (hold the volume down, home and power buttons until you see writing on the screen), reset ODIN and click the AP slot again to flash the I337_OC3_Stock_Partitions

Wait for it to boot and taste the Lollipop!

[HOW TO] how to update at&t galaxy s4 sgh-i337 to lollipop manually!

 Hello everyone, if for some reason you can’t or won’t update your at&t galaxy s4 OTA ( over the air ), and also at&t doesn't let you update through Kies. So you are in the right place. i’m going to show you another way of doing it, In this thread I'll show you how to manually update at&t galaxy s4 sgh-i337 to lollipop(5.0.1). First, if your android version is 4.4.4 you can directly update to 5.0.1, but if your android version is 4.4.2 first you must update to 4.4.4 after that to 5.0.1, and if your android version is 4.2.2/4.3 you need flash stock 4.4.2 first.

4.2.2/4.3--by odin-->4.4.2--by ota-->4.4.4 then 5.0.1

-Please read the following, carefully and thoroughly.
- All roms below are confirmed working, but flash at your own risk.
-I have tried it on unlocked sgh-i337 and it is worked fine, these packages were not tested on locked at&t Galaxy S4.
-these methods are official, and your system status will still be official.
-All your data on phone will be erased, So before you get started, it's a good idea to back up your data! 

--------------------------------Start here!-------------------------------- 

Part. 1

Flash stock NB1(4.4.2) in Odin on phone..(if you are already on 4.4.2 you don't need this step. Go straight to part 2)

First, one of the things that may need to be done is to update your device drivers. You can do this one of two ways.
-You can search the net for your updated drivers. Download and then install to your PC.
-Or you can download or update Kies.
Once drivers are installed, a restart of your PC may be required.
Second, don't forget to enable USB debugging. In Settings> More tab> Developer options.
-To unlock the Developer Options menu. go into Settings> About device and Scroll down to Build number.
Now tap on “Build number” 7 Times. You will see a notification pop up saying, “Developer Mode Has Been Enabled.”

2. Power off phone
3. Boot into Download Mode
...press and hold BOTH power and volume down buttons
...when you see "Warning!" screen, release both buttons
...press volume up to continue
4. Connect phone to PC via usb cable
on pc...
5. Extract .tar.md5 from Stock NB1file(downloaded file)
6. Unzip (Odin.zip) and open (Odin3_v3.10.6) folder
6. Right click on (Odin3 v3.10.6.exe) and run "as administrator"
7. Click AP button and select extracted .tar.md5 file
8. Click Start
9. Phone will reboot when complete
First boot will take some time! Please be patient during the processing!

Any problems, try these few things: Update Drivers, and restart your PC; Different cables; Different USB ports.

Part. 2

Update from NB1(4.4.2) to NJ4(4.4.4) by stock recovery(if you are already on 4.4.4 you don't need this step. Go straight to part 3)

1. Download (4.4.4) NJ4 OTA Update -- 2400258.zip Here
2. Copy "2400258.zip" to your External SdCard
3. Unplug and power off phone
4. Boot into Stock Recovery 
...press and hold Both power and volume up buttons
...when you see the blue "RECOVERY BOOTING..." message in the top left corner, release power button
...when you see the android guy, release volume up button
5. Select "apply update from external storage"
6. Browse to location of "2400258.zip" and select it
7. Phone will reboot when complete.
It may take some time to complete! Please be patient! 


Part. 3

Update from NJ4(4.4.4) to OC3(5.0.1) by stock recovery 
1. Download (5.0.1) OC3 OTA Update Here
2. Unzip "5.0update.zip" you will get this file "2400258.cfg" then replace the .cfg extension with .zip and Copy "2400258.zip" to your External SdCard
3. Unplug and power off phone
4. Boot into Stock Recovery 
...press and hold Both power and volume up buttons
...when you see the blue "RECOVERY BOOTING..." message in the top left corner, release power button
...when you see the android guy, release volume up button
5. Select "apply update from external storage"
6. Browse to location of "2400258.zip" and select it
7. Phone will reboot when complete.

Notes:

1-if you get any error in updating to lollipop. First flash stock 4.4.2 even if you already have 4.4.2/4.4.4
2- you can't change file extension in mobile. You need to use a PC. if you can't change/see file extension in PC try these methods :

1. Click the Start menu. ...
2. Type "folder options" (without the quotes). ...
3. A dialog box with the title "Folder Options" will appear. ...
4. Click to uncheck the box for "Hide extensions for known file types".
5. Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the dialog box.

Method-2


1. Launch Control Panel. In Windows 8 / 8.1, you can get by hitting Windows + X and selecting from the menu that appears.

2. Open Folder Options. If you don't see the Folder Options icon right away, you can find it by typing Folder Options into the search box at the upper right corner of the control panel window.

3. Select the View tab.

4. Toggle "Hide extensions for known file types" to off. I also recommend changing Hiden files and folders to "Show hidden files, folders and drives" so you can access all of Windows' system folders.

5. Click Ok. Now, any time you browse your file system, you will see all file extensions.

4.Now copy and replace boot.img present in stock rom to port rom if its an asop rom

You need to replace bootclass path pin int.rc file present in boot.img ..

5.Next step is open Meta-inf folder/google/android/updater script with notepad++
  you will see these lines or more than these lines

  mount("ext4", "EMMC", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p5", "/system");

here you see 5 and 7 ...but this maybe different for your device,to know that open updater script file from the stock rom(BASE) and  look at it...
Now replace those those number from BASE UPDATER SCRIPT TO PORT UPDATER SCRIPT and save it

6.LAST AND FINAL STEP
  Install winrar if you already haven't
 now select META-inf,system,boot ,data(if you have) and right click,select add to archive
 select zip from opening window and click ok...
After that copy to sd card and flash via recovery

BUG FIXING

If you found any bugs replace from BASE to PORT

Bootloop?  

Replace following files(from stock to port):

FOR CAMERA NOT CONNECTED ISSUE / CAMERA GREEN / CAMERA FORCE CLOSE "unfortunately camera has stopped"
No success after the files replaced above then keep on replacing one file at a time and check.
Camera problem is the one major bug in this type of porting. You have to have patience. This will take half of your energy. 
Replace all "libcam*.so" files from stock to port if even after trying these files camera can't connect (It may lead to bootloop if ROM boots successfully)

Another fix Init.rc (very important)
Unpack port boot.img and stock boot.img
compare the init.rc file inside extracted boot.img and find (ctrl+F)“cam”. Copy and replace ALL lines related to camera from stock boot.img to port ROM boot.img.
Now repack the boot.img from tool

 FOR FLASH LIGHT NOT COMING FROM CAMERA
Replace libfeatureio.so from /lib

 FOR FM PROBLEM
Replace from /lib/module folder mtk_fm_drv.ko

 TO FIX GPS

(Sometimes screen behaves weird ..means for example if you touch bottom left effect on top right ...almost opposite response)
Replace libinput.so from /system/lib folder.

 BOOTLOOP ON HDC CLONES
Replace libsync.so from /system/lib folder.

 WIFI TETHERING PROBLEM
Replace dnsmasq from /bin folder.

 SCREEN IS UPSIDE DOWN
In build.prop find this line
ro.sf.hwrotation=0
change the value 0 to 180.
ro.sf.hwrotation=180

 Problem with Proximity Sensor
Replace nvram.so, nvram_platform.so, nvram_daemon_callback.so

SD Card not mounting or not working
In the framework-res.apk of your port, replace /res/xml/storage_list.xml from stock one.

USB storage not mounting
Unpack your boot.img replace init.usb.rc from ramdisk by stock boot.img init.usb.rc

 FOR WIFI TOGGLE PROBLEM
Replace wide-dhcpv6, wifi in /etc folder

What does “root” mean?

Rooting is essentially giving you administrative access to your device. Once your device is rooted, you will have an application by the name of Superuser that can be found in your app drawer. This application is where you can control the permissions of any applications that require "administrative" rights. This is a simple way of looking at it.

I get asked by people all the time if rooting is like jailbreaking an iPhone.

Disadvantages

1.Once your phone has been rooted, your manufacturer warranty is Most probably gone. This is probably the number one reason for people not rooting their Android devices, but if you decide rooting is not for you, the process is just as easily undone. Reversal of this process leaves no evidence of ever having been done and your warranty is back in place.

2.Another negative that I'm aware of is the risk of bricking your Deice. You can flash stock rom via pc and get it back as it was ,in most cases.

3.Your Device security maybe compromised.

Advantages

When it comes to advantages, the list is nearly endless. However, there are a few that truly stick out among the crowd. First and foremost, you have full control over your system.

1.You can install applications like SetCPU or No Frills Cpu control that allow you to set the CPU speed of your device manually. It also allows you to overclock (set the processor speed higher than the manufacturer rating) your device, but I wouldn't recommend that unless you know what you're doing. Other performance tweaks like the relocation of caches (browser, maps, market, etc.) can also be utilized with root access to improve the speed and battery life of your device.

2.The most annoying thing about buying subsidized phones is the carrier bloatware that nobody really wants to have to filter through. With root access you can remove whatever you want and install essentially whatever you want – barring it's compatible with your phone – at your own leisure. You're taking charge of your device, in a sense.
